Our Father in Several Languages

Origin, Importance and Use of the Prayer

The “Our Father” prayer, one of the most well-known prayers in Christianity, is found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. It is a model prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, providing a framework for addressing God with reverence and humility. The prayer begins by addressing God as “Father” and acknowledges His holiness and sovereignty. It then petitions for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, for daily bread, for forgiveness of sins, and for deliverance from evil. The prayer concludes with a declaration of God’s kingdom and glory.
